HARLEM RENAISSANCE SCULPTURE OF A WOMAN’S HEAD
An exceptional painted plaster life size maquette or study of an African woman’s head on a hardwood square base, circa 1930-50. In the manner of Sculptor Augusta Savage who was one of the leading artists of the Harlem Renaissance. She couldn’t afford to have her plaster models made into bronze, and this maquette certainly has the presence and quality of an early work by her. Height 34cm. Width 19cm. Depth 23cm Base 17 x 17cm
