Champlevé enamel plaque of Christ in Majesty
A champlevé enamelled copper plaque depicting Christ in Majesty. French, Limoges, 13th century. Decorated in blue, green and red champlevé enamels, the plaque shows the engraved figure of a standing Christ his hands gesturing outwards towards the viewer. The copper retains traces of original gilding. Originally a central panel from a processional cross.
