Shagreen etui with glazed hand-painted miniatures of a seated lady by a plinth and on the reverse, a blindfolded cherub guided by a dog on a lead with the words above 'conduit par la fidelite' which translates as led by the faithful. These are surrounded by chased gold mounts with gold plaques above for 'necessaire' and 'd'amitie'. The lid hinges open to reveal its contents: faceted glass scent with gold top, gold perfume funnel, pencil, tortoiseshell folding fruit knife and mirror. French C1785. Old paper label on outside.
