Calmette
A small oil on board by Jean-Marie Calmette (1918-2007) of the Place de La Concorde, Paris. The viewpoint appears to be from the end of the Rue de Rivoli with the Eiffel Tower to the left, the Luxor Obelisk to the centre and what is the Automobile Club de France to the right. Works by Calmette are held by the Pompidou Centre. Paris circa 1953, 22cm by 16cm excluding frame. Very good condition. Provenance: Phillip Granville (1911-2003) Granville was a noted dealer of modern, contemporary, ethnographic and poster art from the 1950’s at his Lords Gallery in St Johns Wood, London. Among other artists, Granville was the first in the UK to champion the work of Kurt Schwitters.
