(Sold) A rare named and dated 18th century Moroccan metallic embroidered leather wallet. The interior embroidered “Edward Pakenham Terror” and “Tetuan 1761”
Lord Edward Michael Pakenham, 2nd Baron Longford (1745-1792), was appointed, as Lieutenant, to the ship Terror in June 1761.
As with the more familiar, though still uncommon, embroidered wallets and folders from Constantinople, these were bought and customised as souvenirs and gifts. The Koc collection in Istanbul holds an extensive, published, collection dating from the 17th to the 19th centuries but not, apparently, any from Morocco.(🍎sold)
