English antique enameled 18k gold cross pendant with diamond
From England, c.1890–1900, this cross pendant is crafted in 72.62% gold (~18k) and set with a well-proportioned, crisp rose-cut diamond. Clean in outline yet unusually executed, it reads “sweet and odd” in the best way.
Black enamel panels form the ground for tiny cobalt-blue flowers, painted by hand with striking precision. The palette is quiet at first glance, but under light the blue steps forward against the deep black, revealing a pattern of remarkable clarity. The blooms show fine, regular striations—guilloché (engine-turned) texture lending a velvety undertone—lightly dotted with white to animate each flower. The original bail continues the same enamel motif, carrying the design upward with visual completeness.
The rose-cut at center is balanced and lively, its domed apex and clean triangular facets in harmony with the cross’s rounded, substantial contours.
