Jewelry Box Antique Islamic Art Inlaid Sadeli Mosaic
Intricate hand made Sadeli micro-mosaic Islamic marquetry Anglo-Indian lidded box or jewelry box was made in India. These were very popular during the late Victorian era and Edwardian era and were known as Bombay Boxes. This box is an exacting, complex pattern of handmade micro mosaic of copper, brass, wood, and bone on a wood base. It has a deep red velvet interior and ruched velvet countersunk lid lining. The interior bottom has a glass plate over velvet and a removable “x” shaped divider. The lid has a bone finial. The box is in good used antique condition with no missing mosaic pieces, some soiling to velvet interior as shown, 1/4 inch of edge banding on lid corner missing, some mild discoloration, stain on bottom of box.
