Rare French Historical Ring in 18k Gold
This historical antique ring features a buttery gold decorated in France’s patriotic colors of blue, white and red in enamel. A black enamelled band is carved with “ALSACE LORRAINE”. This ring is likely an ode to the Franco-Prussian war in 1871 when Germany occupied the Alsace-Lorraine region in what is now modern-day France. A French patriot was likely the original owner and passionate commissioner of this ring, who would have been highly influenced by the rivalry between France and Germany at the time. Decades after this ring was commissioned, France gained the territory back in 1920 as part of the Treaty of Versailles. This ring is loaded with history and French nationalism and is an incredible piece of history to wear on your finger! Size: Approx. 6-6.25 (US). Materials: 18k gold and enamel. Hallmarks: None (acid tested). Condition: Evidence of resizing in back of ring. Some traces of enamel missing. Overall in great condition for its age. Please view photos for condition report and feel free to ask any questions prior to purchase. Era: Circa 1870s.
